Advent begins on Sunday, December 1, 2019

ADVENT CANDLES* This year, the Christian Education committee will be distributing Advent candles to each IPC family with children up through high school. This is an opportunity for families to gather each day, light the candle, and reflect on our time of anticipation during Advent and Christ’s coming that we celebrate at Christmas. Candles are decorated and marked for each day of Advent. They will be tagged for each family and will be handed out at Chapel Time November 3, and available in Sunday School classrooms or from the CE office thereafter.

CHURCH-WIDE SCHOOL KITS PROJECT* Church World Service school kits give children in impoverished schools, refugee camps, or other difficult settings some of the basic tools for learning. We will provide the canvas bags, and a list of school items to be included in each bag. You fill the bags (the value of items totals about $15), and include $2 to help defray CWS costs of shipping the bags to their final destinations. This is a wonderful project to do yourself or with your kids to let them know the importance of giving and sharing, especially as we open our hearts toward Christ’s coming during Advent.

REVERSE ADVENT CALENDAR PROJECT “The Reverse Advent Calendar” is an opportunity for individuals and families to share with others in anticipation of Christmas. There is a food for each day of Advent to be added to the box on that day. At the end of Advent, on Christmas Eve, the box can be taken to a food bank for distribution to families on Christmas. *Candles not collected will be distributed, and finished School kits can be dropped off at IPC.
