Worship 2017-10-29T21:30:37+00:00

Led by Reverend David Harkness (ipcminister@aol.com), worship is at the heart of the Irvington Presbyterian Church and the wellspring that nourishes all our activities. IPC has a tradition of strong and vital preaching, a rich sacramental life and a renowned music program, all in praise and thanksgiving to God.

Our Regular Services

Sunday morning
At 10:30 on Sunday morning we have a traditional worship service with hymns, choral anthems, a children’s’ time, a responsive reading, scripture, a sermon and prayers. Child care is provided for younger children. We have a Coffee Hour immediately after the service.

Wednesday evening
Our 7:30 Wednesday evening Vespers is an intimate, interactive service that runs about an hour. We recite our call to worship responsively, read the lectionary lesson, and then share our reflections informally. We finish with a communal prayer, a closing hymn, and our benediction.

Children are always welcome in worship at IPC and invited to participate each Sunday in a Children’s Lesson held at the baptismal font. After the lesson, children may attend an age-appropriate class taught by a member of the congregation. Childcare is also available for children under four on Sunday mornings during the services.

Each service ends with the congregation reciting Henri-Frédéric Amiel’s benediction:

“Life is short. We have not much time to gladden the hearts of those who journey with us. Therefore, be swift to love, make haste to be kind.”

Our Sacraments

The Lord’s Supper, which is open to all, is celebrated the first Sunday of every month, as well as on the third Wednesday at Vespers, and on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Baptism, which is a commitment on the part of the parents and the congregation to raise the child in a loving Christian environment, is held during the regular Sunday morning service. The church also holds adult baptism as a rite of entry into the congregation for people who were not baptized as infants. If you have additional questions concerning baptism for yourself, or for your child, please call the church office at (914) 591-8124 or make an appointment with our pastor directly through Ipcminister@aol.com. We welcome the opportunity to talk with you about this important moment in the Christian life.
