Good Shepherd is a comprehensive early childhood program serving children ages 2-5 years old. The program is sponsored by the church under the educational direction of Mandy Landivinec and the Nursery School Committee (de facto Board). Although nonsectarian, core moral and ethical values are emphasized. There is a reflection of the children’s backgrounds integrated within school year’s instruction as well.

GSECC is voluntarily registered with the New York State Education Department and is further licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services. GSECC is the only nursery school in the Rivertowns to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This honor indicates the level of professional conduct achieved and the quality of programming offered by GSECC. All the aforementioned entitle the conduct of on-site inspections.

At Good Shepherd, children are immersed in a child-centered program in which teachers skillfully develop an age-appropriate and stimulating curriculum. We believe that the unhurried child learns best through play and social interactions. Our experienced and State-qualified teachers create an intentional, meaningful, and purposeful learning environment built upon developmental needs, best practices in early education, in other words, an emergent curriculum is utilized. New York State Pre-K Common Core Standards are incorporated. Our goal is to develop the young child’s social and cognitive skills, self-confidence, and a love of learning – thus, laying the groundwork for Kindergarten and beyond.

We include the following enrichment activities in our program: art, music, yoga, nature studies, and sign language. There is the addition of an Extended Day Program and Mini-Camp Program in which many parents have their children participate. The extensive large-space and beautiful outside grounds offer many opportunities for outdoor gross-motor play and celebration activities. Since the school is considered a mission of the church, no child is refused admission based on financial needs. A Tuition Committee reviews all applications requiring tuition assistance.
